Welcome to Ahimsa House!
The Sanskrit word “Ahimsa” means non-violence and compassion for all living things; which is what we strive to achieve at Ahimsa House. Dr. Mohangi is the principal periodontist with over 32 years of experience in implantology, periodontology and oral medicine. He is also a sessional consultant at the University of the Witwatersrand where he fulfils his passion for teaching and research centred around his main interest of bone regeneration in periodontics and implantology. Ahimsa House is situated conveniently across the road from The Zone, Rosebank Mall and the Rosebank Gautrain station just off Oxford Road.
Dr. G U Mohangi, known to most as ‘Vicky’ is a Periodontist and Specialist in Oral Medicine including Oral Implantology. He qualified as a dentist almost 37 years ago, has a passion for the disciplines of implant dentistry, periodontal plastic surgery and oral medicine.
Born and raised in KZN, he served in several clinics and hospitals, then he returned to his home town, Tongaat to be in private practice. During this time, he pursued part-time studies at the University of Pretoria, completing Diplomas in Periodontology and Oral Medicine and an MSc Degree in Periodontology. After many years of successful private general practices, he decided to satisfy his intellectual curiosity, choosing to specialise in disciplines of Oral Medicine / Periodontology / Oral Implantology, at the University of Pretoria.
After qualifying as a periodontist, he practiced in Sandton and Umhlanga for several years. He then decided to explore the world of academics, accepting a post at the dental school at Wits University as Head of clinical unit for Oral Medicine, Periodontology and Implantology, for about 5 years; supervising and teaching undergraduate students and mainly training of registrars and other post-grads. He conducted several research projects and trials. He published his findings, presented posters and gave lectures regionally and internationally.
He resigned from Wits 2 years ago as full time academic and opened a practice in Rosebank, remaining as part-time consultant and research supervisor at Wits.
He was recently study club director of the Gauteng branch and he is a Fellow of the international team of Implantologists (the ITI). He is an associate member of The College of Medicine – Dentistry.
He is a reviewer of dentistry journals and an active examiner at all 4 dental faculties in South Africa at under- & post-graduate levels.
